SELECT A TRAINING PROGRAMME SERVICE |
Swimwatch
are launching an important new service.
Many triathletes,
masters swimmers, recreational fitness swimmers, surf swimmers,
waterpolo players and even a number of open pool swimmers
write their own schedules and train on their own. The new
Swimwatch service is aimed at helping these athletes.
All
the schedules written so far are general aerobic fitness
schedules. Other anaerobic, speed and trials sessions will
be added as the service grows. So, at this stage you can
only select an AEROBIC schedule using the selection program
below.
The training schedules range in length from 2,000m
to 10,000m. Using the selection program you can choose the
distance you wish to swim.
The schedules are then further
categorized into MIXED sessions, KICK sessions, LONG sessions,
MEDLEY sessions and SHARPENERS sessions. Using the selection
program you can choose the type of program you want to do.
The description LONG is not a reference to the session's
length, which also range from 2,000m to 10,000m, but describes
the type of schedule. These are the swimming equivalent
of a runner's steady road run. Swimwatch recommend that
at least one of the LONG schedules is included in each weeks
training.
Purists will probably say the SHARPENERS schedules
should not be included in an AEROBIC listing of schedules.
They are right. We have included them in the AEROBIC category
just while the system gets started. Once the anaerobic and
speed sections are up and running SHARPENERS will be put
in a more suitable home.
The schedules shown have all been
used by competitive swimmers. Three have been New Zealand
open champions, record holders and representatives at Olympic
Games, Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Games.
Swimwatch
recognize there are a lot of other good schedules around.
